Send white light or pray? Does one work better? 

In these troubled time, an increasing number of people are turning to prayer of one form or another  

Back in the 70s, I was introduced to the concept of “white light” and the idea that it could be “sent” as a form of healing energy. While this was revolutionary then, today everything from condolence letters to Facebook posts are signed with “sending love and light”. More references to prayer, as in “I am praying for you” and “sending love and prayers” also exist. 

Is there a difference between traditional prayer and sending white light? I think so – at least if you are doing what theologians call praying for “intercession”, i.e., praying that a “god” will intercede on your behalf. At its core, this kind of prayer is based on a few assumptions. One is that this divine being is above and beyond you. Another is that it has the power to grant your wish. Yet another is that your divine being is better /stronger/more powerful than someone else’s. For a not-too-serious example, think of a soccer or “football” game. While I might be praying to Jesus for the Toronto FC to win, a Muslim in the UK might be praying to Allah for Manchester United.

Of course, not all traditional prayer is like this. Many people of all faiths pray to a divine that is near, or even within, and they pray for someone other than themselves or for something unrelated to their own needs. This is getting a lot closer to what is meant by sending white light. 

But does one work better than the other? For me, the answer is clear when it comes to praying for intercession. I do not believe there is any being on high who answers prayers or grants wishes. When I read Paul’s words in Acts 17:28 about the God “in whom we live and move and have our being”, I see us, as human beings, immersed in a radiant light; a loving, intelligence that connects us all. When we “send” this radiant light, we are simply activating it somewhere else. We are tuning forks, setting off a vibration. There is no limitation of time or space because we are all One, floating in this all-pervasive divine intelligent Oneness.

If you are tuning into this Oneness, it doesn’t matter whether you send white light or pray, you have a potent tool to use in your attempts to right this world gone wrong.
